Microengineering & Polymers Hub

The Microengineering  & Polymers Hub rationalizes the development of novel devices  such as sophisticated  3D culture systems and biosensors.  This Hub integrates our microengineering expertise and materials development activities, in particular in the field of advanced polymers.

One strength of the Hub is its ability to develop specialized instrumentation for rapid manufacturing  at a microscale resolution. These activities are supported by the development of new tailored soft polymeric materials by the Soft Matter Synthesis Lab, as well as of innovative approaches for the structuring  of well-established and well-characterized materials. In particular, light-based structuring methods are being combined with surface functionalization at multiple scales.

The Microengineering & Polymers Hub provides the technical basis  for the development of both, sophisticated 3D culture devices for eukaryotic cells and of biofilm microfluidic-based bioreactors, in collaboration with the microBioprocessing Hub.  These developments also complement R&D activities within the Screening Hub.
